Ukraine is taking important steps to maintain smooth travel between Poltava and Kharkiv regions, despite temporary adjustments to suburban train services. On 9 November, major routes will continue to operate, although some duplicate services will be suspended to streamline operations and manage increased demand. This strategic move ensures that essential communications remain intact while minimizing disruptions. In addition to the schedule changes, Ukraine introduced the “UZ-3000” programme, part of the President’s Winter Support Initiative, which provides free travel over distances of up to 3,000 km. This bold new initiative aims to make travel more accessible to millions of passengers, relieve pressure on the railway network during the peak winter season, and reinforce Ukraine’s commitment to maintaining strong and efficient public transport.

Despite these changes, Ukraine has reassured the public that the railway line between the Poltava and Kharkiv regions will remain operational, minimizing any potential disruptions to passengers. This amendment aims to simplify operations and ensure the continuation of basic services without burdening the system.
In an effort to improve accessibility of the service, Ukrzaliznytsia has also introduced Program “UZ-3000”.It is a new initiative within the framework of the President’s winter support plan. The program offers free travel over distances of up to 3,000 kilometres, giving long-distance travelers the opportunity to access the railway network without incurring costs. This initiative aims to relieve pressure on the railway system during the busy winter months, making travel more accessible to the public.
This move is consistent with the broader strategy to strengthen Ukraine’s transport infrastructure and reduce barriers to mobility for its citizens. By implementing the “UZ-3000” programme, Ukrzaliznytsia aims to support the growing demand for travel during the cold months and ensure that public transport remains a viable and accessible option for everyone.
While the temporary suspension of some routes may cause inconvenience to a small number of passengers, the overall modifications reflect a proactive approach by Ukrzaliznytsia to balance service continuity and operational efficiency. These changes highlight rail operators’ commitment to maintaining a robust and responsive public transport system, even in the face of increased demand during peak travel periods.
For those planning to travel between Poltava and Kharkiv regions on November 9, they are advised to check updated timetables and make adjustments to their plans accordingly. Travelers who are accustomed to the funicular routes may need to explore alternative travel options or adjust their departure times to accommodate modified train services.
While Ukraine is going through this period of timetable adjustments, the focus remains on ensuring that essential services are maintained and that passengers can continue to rely on the railway network for their daily commutes and long-haul journeys. The introduction of the UZ-3000 program is an important step in this direction, allowing the public to benefit from greater mobility during the winter.
