The Football Association of Ireland is petitioning UEFA to ban Israel from the competition

The Football Association of Ireland voted on Saturday to petition UEFA to ban Israel from competitions organized by the European governing body.

The motion, proposed by Irish club Bohemians, required the support of 50 percent of the federation’s delegates and was passed by a clear majority, the Football Association of Ireland said in a statement.

He cited two alleged violations of the UEFA statute by the Israel Football Association. The first is “the organization of clubs in the Occupied Palestinian Territories without the consent of the Palestine FA” and the second is the “alleged failure of the IFA to enforce an effective anti-racism policy”.

The next meeting of the UEFA executive committee will be held on December 3 in Nyon.

Israel will conclude their World Cup qualifying campaign with a match against Moldova on November 16. The team is ranked third in its group and is unable to finish first to automatically qualify for next year’s tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico, or even finish second to qualify for the playoffs.

Uefa’s plans to vote to ban Israel from European competition because of the two-year conflict in Gaza were put on hold last month after a peace offer from US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In a statement, the FAI also said it would “call on UEFA to publish transparent criteria for the suspension or expulsion of member associations to ensure equal treatment for all members”.
