Preston North End forward Osmažić banned for nine matches for racial abuse

Preston North End’s Milutin Asmaic has been banned for nine matches after being accused of racially abusing Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbry.

In March, Asmazic was accused by the Football Association of allegedly making racist remarks towards Tunisian midfielder Mejbra during February’s 0-0 Championship draw at Deepdale.

The FA said the independent governing body found Montenegrin forward Asmaic’s actions to be a “serious offence” as defined in FA Rule E3.2 because the words contained a reference to skin color and/or race. Asmaich denied the accusations.

In a statement, Preston said he was “very disappointed” by the decision.

“Milutin has always maintained his innocence and continues to do so. We continue to fully support our player,” the club added.

The 26-year-old was also fined £21,000 ($28,184) and ordered to complete an education course.
