In a shocking incident, an elderly woman who went missing from Kuguru village in Anekal taluk near Bengaluru was murdered, then hid in a house for two days and later dumped near a lake, Karnataka police said.

The crime was solved after an investigation by the Sarjapur police, who arrested a woman named Deepa for the alleged murder of 68-year-old Bhadramma, who went missing on October 30.

According to police, a missing report was filed on October 31 after family members and villagers failed to locate the elderly woman during a prolonged search. After that, the police began an operational search around the village.

A few days later, on November 6, the police received a crucial tip-off indicating that Bhadramma was last seen at the house of a woman named Deepa, who lived in the same village.

Based on this information, the police detained Deepa for questioning.

During interrogation, she confessed to the murder, revealing a terrifying chain of events.

Deepa told investigators that she allegedly lured Bhadramma to her home by offering her kajaya, a traditional sweet, and then strangled her to steal a gold chain. After the murder, Deepa put the body in a big bag and kept it in her house for two days.

As the smell of decomposition grew stronger, she moved the body into another bag, police said.

She then called her son and said they needed to throw out the trash, police said.

Together, they allegedly carried the body to the Doddathimmasandra lake and dumped it among the bushes near the bottom of the lake, police said.

Deepa reportedly continued her daily routine in the village and denied any involvement when questioned by the victim’s family.

Later, the police discovered the body and sent it for pathology. A case of murder has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code at Sarjapur police station.

According to the preliminary investigation, the motive for the crime was greed for gold. Police are now investigating the possible involvement of other family members and are working to find the missing jewelry and additional evidence.

Further investigation is ongoing.
