In a shocking incident, a policeman, believed to be under the influence of alcohol, lost control of his private vehicle and crashed into two motorcycles at Bharbhadia Junction in Madhya Pradesh’s Neemuch district. One person was killed and four others were injured in a collision on Friday evening.

The accused has been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Manoj Yadav, posted at Jawad police station.

As a result of the accident, Dashrat Singh died on the spot while four others were injured, including Singh’s two children. One of the injured children had to have his leg amputated and his condition remains critical, India Today reported.

After the accident, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ankit Jaiswal suspended ASI Manoj Yadav and ordered his immediate arrest. PIR was registered and Yadav’s car was impounded.

“Considering the seriousness of the case, strict legal and departmental action is being taken. The officer has been arrested, suspended and an FIR has been registered,” SP Jaiswal said.

A video reportedly recorded in Yadav’s car has surfaced. Several bottles of liquor and a glass can be seen on him, suggesting that he was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Nearby lay a completely broken motorcycle, parts of which were scattered on the road.

The police confirmed that a criminal case has been opened against the accused.

Pictures from the scene of the accident show a horrific scene: the victim is lying lifeless on the road with a severed leg, a girl is crying next to her, and another boy is bleeding and unconscious.

After the tragedy, anger and grief engulfed the victim’s village. On Saturday morning, the family of the deceased along with villagers and relatives blocked the main road demanding justice and compensation.

The protesters demanded Rs 1 crore in financial aid and a government job for a family member to help support Dashrat Singh’s two young children.

The local authorities also assured that the case will be thoroughly investigated and that justice will be served.
