Danthai Boonma is preparing to take on the challenge of joining the LIV Golf League, a move that would mark a historic milestone in his career as a leading golfer in Thailand. After an impressive season that saw him rise to the top of the International Series rankings, Boonma is now on the cusp of becoming the first full-time Thai player to compete in the prestigious LIV Golf League. His consistent performances, including a second-place finish at the Morocco International Championship, have secured him a place in upcoming major events such as the PIF Saudi International and the LIV Golf Promotions event in January. As he continues to build on his success, Boonma’s determination and strong momentum put him in position to make a major breakthrough in the world of golf.
Boonma’s strong performance at the Moutai Singapore Open showed his consistency and skill. After posting a four-under-par 68 in the second round, he easily reached this stage, a crucial step in any tournament. He followed that up with a close round on Saturday, and maintained his momentum as the tournament entered its final stages. Although he is 11 strokes behind the leaders and out of contention for first place, his ability to remain consistent and focused on steady progress remains a key strength.
Currently sitting in 10th place in the International Series rankings, Boonma has had a breakout season, with a second-place finish at the Morocco International Championship being the highlight. There, he finished just behind Scott Vincent, a result that saw him rise significantly in the world rankings – from 51st to 5th. This strong performance in Morocco has secured him a place in two prestigious events: the PIF Saudi International Forum powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers and the LIV Golf Promotions event scheduled for January. These events represent important milestones in his quest to join the LIV Golf League, providing him with a valuable opportunity to compete at the highest level.
Boonma’s rise in the world rankings reflects his growing reputation in the world of golf. His impressive form has not only earned him a place among the top players in the International Series, but has also made him a major figure in Thailand’s golf scene. He is now looking forward to competing alongside some of the best players in the world, including fellow Thai golfers such as Pom Saksansen, Pavit Tangkamolprasert, Sarit Suwannarot, Jaz Janwattananond, Sadom Kayukangana, Sutipat Pratiptinchai and Atirog Winnaicharoenchai, all of whom are also in the top 40 rankings and are expected to join him at the LIV Golf Promotions event.
“Yes, absolutely – LIV Golf is an amazing opportunity and it will be an amazing experience to play on this stage with some of the best players in the world. It will be amazing to be the first full-time Thai player to play at LIV Golf. This will mean a lot to me and Thai golf. If I keep improving step by step, I believe the opportunity will come at the right time.”
While the Moutai Singapore Open was a tough event for Boonma, his overall performance this season has been exceptional, considering the obstacles he has faced. One of the toughest parts of the year came when his father was hospitalized. Despite the personal pressures, Boonma was able to give one of his best performances in the Moroccan International Championship. He says that moment helped him gain a new perspective, reminded him of what really matters and strengthened his determination to stay the course.
“I try not to put too much pressure on myself. I just focus on my own game, keep training hard, and stay consistent. Every tournament is a new opportunity to improve and gain experience. Of course, the idea of moving up the rankings is there, but I want to enjoy the process instead of stressing about it.”
Reflecting on his play this week at Singapore Island Country Club, Boonma said: “Overall, my hitting was really strong today. I’m hitting the ball well right now, but my putting has gone down a bit compared to the start of this season. This is definitely an area I need to spend more time on – improving my putting and short game will make a big difference.”
Looking to the future, Bonma is clear about his goals. While the final round of the Moutai Singapore Open is unlikely to bring him victory, he is focused on the long-term picture – developing his game, improving his ranking, and eventually securing a place in the LIV Golf League. As one of Thailand’s most promising golf talents, Boonma’s journey is far from over, and the future looks bright as he continues to take on the best players in the world and aims to achieve a pioneering feat in the sport.
“Honestly, that week in Morocco was a little different for me. My mind wasn’t on golf, I was just focused on my dad. It probably really helped me relax and take things one shot at a time. It reminded me how important it is to stay calm and keep things simple.”
