- Rumor has it that the Nvidia RTX 5000 Super update has been discontinued
- New speculation claims that GPUs were abandoned due to low VRAM provisioning
- We’re told that the 3GB GDDR7 modules required for Super GPUs are best used in AI graphics cards
Nvidia may have canceled its RTX 5000 Super update while looking at the last one on the grapevine – although we have to keep in mind that these supercharged graphics cards were just speculation.
VideoCardz noticed that Chinese hardware site Uniko’s posted on X to claim that the long-rumored RTX 5070 and 5080 Super models are no longer included, even though the post is clearly labeled as a rumor.
[rumor]due to the crazy shortage lately, 3gb gddr7 can’t make it to the consumer desktop market, so the super series is canceled. Current models are expected to be more expensive very soon due to the rising cost of 2gb gddr7. pic.twitter.com/yMSMj1MjqJNovember 7, 2025
RTX 5080 Super, RTX 5070 Ti Super and RTX 5070 Super were expected a massive 50% increase in video RAM, bumping the boot up to 24GB for the top-of-the-line offering and 18GB for both 5070 versions.
And according to Uniko Hardware, Nvidia’s problem is that the 3GB of GDDR7 memory modules needed for these upgrades is not enough. So the theory is that what VRAM does exist at 3GB will be used for Nvidia’s more expensive – and more profitable – AI graphics cards, and there simply isn’t room to produce the new GeForce RTX Super models.
Additionally, we’re told that 2GB GDDR7 VRAM modules are also getting more expensive, so Blackwell’s range (which currently uses 2GB modules) could become more expensive in the future.
Analysis: AI > GeForce?

Unfortunately, it makes sense. In case you missed it, it was pretty cool recent increases in memory prices and chatter about various disruptions in the supply chain (affecting drives as well as RAM). I’m not too sure about the talk that current Nvidia GeForce graphics cards are getting more expensive, but certainly the theories raised around potential Super upgrades sound plausible.
If 3GB modules aren’t as easy to come by as suggested, Nvidia will always prioritize graphics cards like its RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell workstation GPUs, a heavyweight board that costs north of $8,000 in the US (with 96GB of GDDR7, that’s 32 modules) – with much higher profit margins, of course.
However, these are just rumors, so they may be inaccurate – and it’s possible that Nvidia still has plans for a super-update, they’ve just been delayed. In theory, this has already happened, and the latest launch date rumors indicate that these RTX 5000 Super cards won’t arrive until March or May 2026, with previous reports hinting at an early 2026 debut (past rumors have hinted even earlier).
So another possibility is that these super GPUs may still be on the roadmap, but will arrive much later next year. Any update may depend on how much Nvidia feels it needs to compete with AMD — in which case there isn’t much of a need in today’s GPU market.
The truth is, we just don’t know, but when rumors like this come out, we certainly have to take them into consideration – especially since, as noted, it makes some sense that Nvidia could tilt its priorities this way when there is a problem with providing enough 3GB video memory modules. But what we’ll have to see is whether other rumor mongers support this claim to see if it could be true.
It’s also worth remembering that if it succeeds, it will cast a very different light on Black Friday. Until now, I’ve advised those looking for a mid-range Nvidia GPU to wait for the RTX 5070 Super; but if that update doesn’t happen, here are the current deals you can get on the RTX 5070 MSI model at Newegg US for $480 (with a $20 discount) – will suddenly become a lot more enticing, especially if the second part of this rumor about a 2GB memory module price hike that’s pushing up the asking price of current Blackwell GeForce models turns out to be on the money.
As always, we’re keeping a close eye on all the best Black Friday deals already in action.
