The controversy surrounding the Pune land deal involving Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s son Parth Pawar continues to deepen as officials confirmed that Amadea Enterprises LLP, co-owned by Parth and his cousin Digvijay Patil, will have to pay double stamp duty, around Rs 42 crore, to cancel the sale deed of the disputed land in 40 Acres in Upscale Mundhwa area of Pune.

Fadnavis says action will be taken as per law

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said the government would act strictly in accordance with the law and that there was “no question of saving anyone”. Responding to criticism that the FIR did not name Partha Pawar, Fadnavis said, “Those who don’t even understand what an FIR is are the ones making baseless allegations. The FIR has been lodged against the company and its authorized signatories.”

FIRs were registered against Digvijay Patil, Sheetal Tejwani (who represented 272 land owners through power of attorney) and sub-registrar RB Tharu for alleged cheating and misappropriation.

The firm has to pay Rs 42 crore to cancel the deal

Amadea Enterprises had earlier claimed a stamp duty exemption of 7%, equivalent to Rs 21 crore, citing plans to build a data center on the land, according to the Registration and Stamps Department. Now the firm has to pay not only the initial duty of 7% but also an additional 7% to execute the cancellation deed.

Officials said that the act will be canceled only after full payment of dues. The joint sub-registrar, AP Fulaware, confirmed that the document must be “duly stamped” before the cancellation can proceed.

Sharad Pawar supports the investigation

NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar, uncle of Ajit Pawar and grandfather of Partha, expressed support for an inquiry into the deal, saying the chief minister should “tell all the facts to the public”. He distanced himself from his daughter Supriya Sule’s comments, who said she did not believe Parth would do anything wrong. “It could be her view,” Pawar said, adding, “Administration, politics and family are different things.”

The opposition is looking for a white paper

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Congress president Harshvardhan Sapkal has demanded that the government release a white paper on large-scale land deals in Pune and Mumbai and hold a one-day debate during the upcoming winter session of the legislature.

The deal, initially valued at Rs 300 crore, has raised questions about alleged collusion and misuse of government land, turning what started as a real estate deal into a full-blown political storm in Maharashtra.
