BAREILLY: A 22-year-old man, Mohd Mehbub, suffered severe burns and is in a critical condition after three unidentified men allegedly tied him to a pole, doused him with petrol and set him on fire while he was returning from the mosque after Friday prayers. As the ropes burned, he was able to free himself and managed to reach home. His family rushed him to a nearby medical center, which referred him to another hospital. Mehboob’s father, Abdul Sattar, claimed that his son suffered 50% burns. The family has lodged a complaint but no FIR has been registered yet. Budaun SP (Rural) Hridesh Katheria said, “It appears the miscreants first doused the man with petrol and set him on fire. The victim told the police that he had an altercation with the accused on Thursday. The three suspects have been detained for questioning.” “All aspects of the case are being probed,” said SP Katheria.
