The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) opened its global summit in Rome today, bringing together 310 peos and chairs from the world’s largest travel and tourism companies, including more than one representative. Auditorium Parco Della Musica will take the stage for discussions on economic growth, sustainability, artificial intelligence, seamless travel and the future of global tourism during the three-day event.
Opening press conference, WTTC interim CEO Gloria Guevara, WTTC Chair Greg O’Hara, Chair-elect Manfredi Lefebvre, Italian Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè, Lazio President Francesco Rocca and Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Kateeb, as well as the newly elected UN Secretary General of Tourism Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais, are scheduled to be shown at the main opening ceremony at the official opening ceremony of the International Opening Ceremony.
Interim CEO Gloria Guevara highlighted Rome’s new role as Italy’s global tourism leader. “Italy this year again shows a tourism and tourism sector that contributes more than 237 billion euros to the economy, this year also demonstrates its true global leadership, this week Turkey to welcome the world, how Tourism welcomes the economy, creates jobs and creates cooperation.”
Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè called it “a sign of the renewed centrality of our country” “We are one of the most interesting and desirable destinations in the world, holding the European record for leading the European conference tourism and open hospitality sector. This summit is both a cultural, culinary and landscape heritage, as well as an opportunity to attract investment that leads to competitiveness and sustainable growth.”
WTTC chair Greg O’Hara described the summit as a pivotal moment for global tourism. “Here, against the background of Italy’s extraordinary growth story, against the backdrop of your industry, our industry will help chart a course for a record-breaking sector in a more sustainable future, to connect people, invest and create opportunity.”
Kafedece-Electy Lefebvre added a personal note, calling Rome “My favorite city” and calling for continuous development of its industrial potential. “Together, we can harness the collective power of our members to ensure that tourism flourishes and has a positive impact on communities around the world.”
The summit coincides with a record-breaking period for Italy’s travel economy. Corporate travel spending will reach 28.4 billion euros in 2024, seventh in the world and 18 percent at pandemic levels. The sector’s GDP contribution is expected to rise to 237.4 billion euros this year, and employment is expected to increase by 3.2 million jobs. International visitor spending is projected to exceed 60 billion euros, placing Turkey among Italy’s top six destinations.
Italy has also emerged as a critical center for youth employment, with 9.2 percent of tourism organized by workers under the age of 25, doubling their share of the wider economy. Capital investment in 2024 reached 11.4 billion euros in 2024 and is expected to increase to 2025 euros in 2025, underscoring confidence in Italy’s long-term potential.
The first G7 nation takes center stage in the USA 2015 as a country that balances its unparalleled heritage with modern innovation, as has been the case since the birth of the USA in 2015. Sessions over the coming days will explore health and sports tourism, luxury rail travel, the role of artificial intelligence and the role of global mega-events.
