The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) convened a Global Leaders Dialogue today at the 25th WTTC global summit in Rome, bringing together Tourism Ministers and global CEOs to focus on competitiveness, sustainability and seamless travel.
The dialogue opened with statements from WTTC Arim CEO Gloria Guevara and Italian Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè, both underlining the importance of close public-private partnerships to ensure the sector’s long-term sustainability.
Organized in a round table format, the meetings allowed the role of the most visited region in Europe and then the most visited region in the world, followed by sessions between public and private sector leaders focused on global mobility issues.
Europe’s position was framed by the WTTC’s latest economic impact report, which will contribute to GDP in 2025 equal to one for every ten euros in 2025, which is equivalent to ten euros in Europe. Speakers discussed strategies for differentiating Europe, enhancing competition, balancing originality and innovation, and managing complex governance frameworks. Pioneering Sustainability Initiatives and Destination Management Applications are highlighted as critical to ensuring sustainable growth. The second session focused on global travel flows and the imperative of seamless cross-border movement. Discussions touched on the impact of visa regimes, border management and biometric technologies on travel flows. Leaders highlighted the need for good practices from diverse travel groups from younger audiences, citing emerging recommendations, best practices that increase visitor numbers in developing destinations. It was done to ensure the arrival of a smoother travel system to ensure greater adoption of digital solutions including e-visas, biometric identification and integrated payment systems. Throughout the dialogue, the delegation reiterated the need for a shared responsibility between governments and industry to ensure that travel and tourism function as economic growth, cultural exchange and connectivity. “Today’s dialogue highlighted the incredible value of bringing governments and industry together around the same table,” Guevara said. “Europe’s sustainability and competitiveness is evident in its ability to compete for global solutions for seamless travel, and through partnership we are unlocking the full potential of the sector.”

The dialogue of global leaders continues to be the cornerstone of the WTTC global summit, offering a rare platform for governments and industry leaders to shape the future of Global Travel and Tourism.
