Continuing its transformation efforts, Tata group-backed Demerger Carrier Air India has announced a new multi-year ticket distribution agreement by Singapore-based Global Travel Tech Tech Tech provenance, through Global’s Global Distribution System (GDS), enabling it to create optimal network plans for the carrier’s existing and future fleet.
Airlines use GDS systems such as Amadeus, Saber and Travelport to distribute their tickets to travel agents globally for a fee. This agreement between Air India and Saber will enable travel agents and corporations worldwide to access weather and corporates through Saber’s vast global travel market.
In addition to distribution services, Air India will also use Saber’s advisory services to best route its existing and new fleet.
Sharing the details in a statement, the airline announced that weather and saber will work together for advanced network planning. Saber will offer consultancy services to Air India, which will include an in-depth market assessment, development of a new hub and schedule structure, and detailed capacity planning over a 10-year horizon, as well as detailing the system’s operational mandate. The value of the deal was not disclosed.
Based at the Saber Bengaluru Competence Center, the expertise will provide close proximity support to Airlines Airlines and Transformational Travel.
After a successful relationship of 20 years, Air India had decided to disband its content distribution through Saber GDS in January 2020. The average National Carrier has chosen to contract with discounted premium Amadeus GDS to reduce operating costs.
Saber, in partnership with Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial and Transformation Officer, Air India, said the airline is rebuilding and excited about the relationship at this transformative time for Air India and the broader Indian travel market. “The Indian travel market is back and coming back strong. This long-term global distribution partnership will support our key growth plans to transition to a more dynamic, trade-driven model designed to unlock the value of weather and services,” he said.
Aggarwal added that the new GDS agreement with Saber will help Air India become more competitive in the global aviation stage. “Reunited with a new GDS agreement, Saber said we are working hand-in-hand with an incredibly knowledgeable advisory team to develop a long-term network plan that will strengthen Air India’s position on our domestic and international routes and look forward to an even closer collaboration in the coming years.”
“We are confident that India will benefit from our experience in itinerary planning and gain substantial value in accessing and reaching Saber’s global network of travel agencies,” he said. “And our travel agency partners in India and around the world will greatly benefit from having access to Air India’s products and services.”
