He further said: “American citizen services will remain closed to the public on Thursday, October 23, 2025, American Center Chennai, education and utilization ediefi and usief departments.”

The resumption of services was announced by the United States on June 23 to strengthen visa selection procedures. Under these rules, all persons applying for a non-F, M or J visa were required to set the privacy settings on all social media accounts to public. This measure was intended to conduct due diligence in the United States to establish U.S. identification and admissibility.

Further explaining the official guidance of the US Embassy in India (@usandindia) (@usandindia), “Each visa decision” applies to all individuals who apply for a non-F, M or J visa, United States of America identities and are asked to adjust privacy settings as appropriate to the public to establish admissibility. “

The post also noted that since 2019, the US has required visa applicants to provide social media identifiers on their immigrant and nonimmigrant visa application forms. “We use all of the information from our visa screening and visa applicants to identify visa applicants who are inadmissible to the United States, including those who threaten US national security,” he said.

In parallel, the US government imposed a 2025 travel ban in 2025, banning citizens from twelve countries and partially limiting the entry of visas from seven people. Action prioritized national security and targeted countries security gaps and terrorism concerns, the most affected nations were reported to be in the Middle East and Africa.

Citizens from these countries faced a general ban on immigrant and non-immigrant visas, including for tourism, education and employment. Meanwhile, seven other countries faced partial restrictions, including stricter selection or restricted visa categories.

Amid concerns in South Asia, the US has clarified that India is not included in the ban. Applications from Indian nationals continued to be processed in all visa categories including B1 / B2 tourist visas, H1B work permit and F1 student visas.

However, Indian visa applicants still faced long delays due to high demand and administrative backlog, with most US visas in India booking interview slots ten to twelve months apart.

Thus, while India was unaffected by the 2025 travel ban, it continued to affect travel plans, education and numerous employment opportunities due to long processing times.
