Round 1 selection extended, Supreme Court asks NBE to clarify key response policy

NEET PG 2025 Counseling: The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) has extended the deadline for submission of selections for NEET PG Round 1 Counseling for the academic year 2025 till further orders, giving medical aspirants additional time to finalize their preferred colleges and courses. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Friday directed the National Board of Examinations (NBE) to disclose its policy of publishing answer keys for NEET-PG exams, and a bench comprising Justices PS Narasimha and Vipul Pancholi asked the NBE’s counsel to file an affidavit explaining its stand on the matter.

The MCC notification posted on its official website said that candidates should check regularly for updates. As per the provisional schedule released earlier, the filling and blocking of selection was initially scheduled from October 28 to November 5, 2025 for 50 per cent All India Quota (AIQ), 100 per cent Licentiate/Central Universities and AFMS institutions.

The apex court heard a number of petitions raising various issues related to national law and postgraduate entrance examinations, with a particular focus on the disclosure of answer keys as a matter of transparency. During the hearing, counsel for the NBE said that these petitions are pushing educational institutes who want access to the answer keys for the question booklets, arguing that it will degrade the quality of the examination.

On September 26, the judicial panel consisting of judges J. B. Pardiwala and KV Viswanathan sent notices to the Center and the National Medical Sciences Commission on petitions demanding publication of answer keys for NEET-PG 2025. Earlier on April 29, the high court had ordered the publication of raw marks, answer keys and normalization formula for transparency. Previously, candidates did not have access to answer keys or raw score details, raising concerns about the fairness of the normalization process.
