Aeroplan extends no-expiration policy until November 2026

Recently, Aeroplan acquired Announce Another extension of the pause when points expire, which will now continue until November 30, 2026. Let’s take a look at the details.

Aeroplan’s no-expiry policy has been extended until November 2026

In an effort to keep members engaged, many loyalty programs have paused regular expiration policies as travelers have changed their earning and redemption habits during the pandemic.

Aeroplan has been no exception, and for the past five years, points that would otherwise have expired have remained in effect indefinitely.

This means that its normal policy, which requires you to undertake some sort of earning or redemption activity over a rolling 18-month period, has been suspended. Account holders did not have to do any type of earning or redemption to keep their points active.

Aeroplan has it now Announce This no-expiry policy will be extended again, this time November 30, 2026. Before that date, any Aeroplan Points that were intended to expire will not expire.

As of November 30, 2026, the normal expiration policy will resume.

The policy is very simple: If there is no eligible earning or redemption activity in the account for 18 months, your points will expire.

To track your account expiration date, simply log into your Aeroplan account, click “My Aeroplan,” then head to the “Activity” tab. Your account expiration date, if any, will be listed on this page.

How to prevent Aeroplan points from expiring

Fortunately, keeping your Aeroplan account active through earning or redeeming activity is very easy.

There are a range of ways to prevent your account from expiring through Profit, including the following:

You can also get eligible Aeroplan activity through a number of redemption options, including:

• Make a flight reservation using your Aeroplan points
• Transfer your points to another Aeroplan member (at a cost)
• Donate your points to a charity through Aeroplan
• Redeem your points for car, hotel or merchandise rentals
• Purchase in-flight Wi-Fi with Air Canada using your Aeroplan points
• Use your points to bid for a promotion

Additionally, if you belong to a Family Sharing group and someone in the group makes a redemption, it will be considered an eligible activity for all members in the group. As long as someone in your Family Sharing group makes a reservation every 18 months, everyone’s accounts will remain active.

If you have Aeroplan elite status, or if you are under 18 years of age, your Aeroplan points will not expire under any circumstances.

Perhaps the easiest way to keep your Aeroplan points active is to simply hold any of Aeroplan’s co-branded credit cards. As long as you hold one of these credit cards, your points will not expire.

Note that you must be the primary cardholder to be exempt from expiring points. No Supplementary Cardholders will benefit from this policy on their individual accounts.
