October has, shockingly, come and gone. It shouldn’t come as a surprise; It happens every year. But something about the realization that we’ve already reached November — and almost the end of the year — is always jarring. Now is a good time to lock in those vacation plans, make sure you’re using shopping portals to earn points and miles while searching for gifts and maybe even book a back-up hotel as your “exit plan” in case starting your family gets tough.
But despite the arrival of fresh November air, there’s still time to take a look back at what happened in October: Hilton launched its 25th brand, a new lifestyle collection; The stunning new JW Marriott hotel has just opened in Tokyo (and I can’t wait to visit it in December!); The Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, one of TPG’s top hotels, has finally completed a multi-year redesign.
Here’s what else I think you should know about hospitality events starting in October.
A luxury waterfront hotel will open in Charleston

It is scheduled to open on March 1 of next year. Cooper It is an exciting hotel we have our eyes on. Featuring 191 rooms and suites, this hotel will bring luxury hospitality to the historic South Carolina city’s waterfront for the first time. Now that reservations are being accepted, guests should expect elevated Southern charm, a 7,000-square-foot spa, access to upscale boating, and four bars and restaurants to enjoy during their stay. Oh, and don’t forget your personal concierge.
Vienna is getting a Mandarin Oriental hotel

Vienna’s hotel scene has been heating up in recent months, and now another new addition to the scene – the Mandarin Oriental, Vienna – is open to guests. Located in Vienna’s 1st district, the hotel is housed in an Art Nouveau building that was formerly a courthouse. Today, it features 86 rooms, 52 suites and a spa at the Mandarin Oriental – because no luxury stay is complete without some pampering. Visitors and locals can also enjoy four bars and restaurants, ranging from an all-day brasserie to a Japanese izakaya restaurant led by Chef Thomas Seefried.
Airbnb goes social (and more)

Every couple of months, Airbnb releases a series of new features and tools to help travelers have a better experience, whether it’s staying at an Airbnb or joining an Airbnb Experience. The latest update allows people who book an Airbnb Experience to see who’s joining the experience, as well as options to connect and stay in touch (if you want!) afterward. Airbnb has also added other features, including improved maps and flexible carousels, to help you see more rental options to help you find the Airbnb of your dreams.
Waldorf Astoria lands in Finland

The first Nordic Waldorf Astoria hotel has now opened in Helsinki, the capital of Greater Finland. Spread over four historic buildings, the hotel has 116 gorgeous rooms (see above), 32 suites and even some with saunas, steam rooms and terraces with jacuzzis. Like all Waldorf Astoria hotels, you’ll find a signature Peacock Alley bar and, next year, a signature restaurant. Even if you don’t book a room with a private steam room, you can take full advantage of Finnish sauna culture at the Waldorf Astoria Spa.
Room rates at the Waldorf Astoria Helsinki start at $350 or $100,000 Hilton Honors Points per night.
Moxy is making its way to Latin America

I’m a huge fan of Moxy Hotels, and in 2023, I wrote about them Why the brand has “grown up” while maintaining the fun spirit for which it was designed. Now, the brand is opening in Tulum, Mexico, the first of its kind in the Caribbean and Latin America. Close to downtown Tulum, the 122-room hotel offers easy access to the beach, Jaguar National Park, Mayan ruins, and everything else the chic, bohemian city has to offer. Some room configurations also offer bunk beds, making them ideal for groups of friends or families.
