The railway network in Jammu will get a major expansion with the resumption of four long-distance trains started by the Northern Railway under the sixth phase of train operations. These trains will reconstruct important routes starting in November, reconnecting travel routes disrupted by August rains. This will help boost leisure and business tourism in the region, bringing economic benefits to the newly targeted routes. The ongoing reintroduction of stage trains demonstrates the ability of the restored network to deliver expansion. This will ensure a positive travel experience dominated by ease of access and efficiency for the target travellers.
In an important development for travellers, four long-distance trains will resume operations from November onwards, marking the gradual restoration of train services that were affected by heavy rains in August. These resumed services come within the sixth phase of train operation, after five previous phases of restoration that were implemented during the past two months.
From November 1, train number 14610, which runs between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Yoganagari Rishikesh, will be restarted, bringing hope to passengers who depend on this vital route. This will be followed by the resumption of train No. 19804, connecting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Kota, starting November 2. Train No. 19028, which connects Jammu Tawi and Bandra Terminus, will resume operations on November 3. Train No. 15656, which runs between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Kamakhya, is scheduled to resume operation on November 5.
The restoration of these services comes after more than 50 trains were stopped or terminated prematurely on August 26 due to severe damage caused by rain that affected many tracks and bridges. This outage caused great inconvenience to passengers, as many main roads were disrupted for a long period.
The phased resumption of services is part of a larger effort to restore normal train operations in affected areas. Railway authorities are working systematically to ensure that services are restored in a safe and timely manner. Passengers are urged to check updated train schedules on the Northern Railway website or contact the relevant helpline numbers to confirm train timings and routes.
The restoration process has been ongoing for several weeks, with officials regularly reviewing damaged parts of the railway network to ensure safety standards are met. This careful approach is designed to mitigate any further disruptions and ensure the safety and comfort of passengers.
While a large portion of the stopped trains have already been restored, authorities continue to closely monitor the situation. The gradual normalization of train services is expected to ease pressure on passengers who faced challenges due to previous disruptions.
The phased restoration highlights the resilience of the railway network, as it works to accommodate increased demand for long-distance travel following the disruptions. The resumption of these major routes will not only benefit passengers but will also enhance tourism opportunities for passengers visiting major destinations served by these trains.
Passengers are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and plan their trips accordingly, as the restoration process continues. With the full normalization of services, the railway network will be better equipped to handle the travel needs of millions of passengers, especially those eager to explore the diverse cultural and spiritual attractions of the region.
While Northern Rail works to restore full services, the focus remains on providing safe, reliable and efficient transport for all travellers. The gradual launch of train operations also aims to meet the increasing demand for travel, especially with the approaching holiday season.
With these developments, long-distance train travel is expected to become more convenient and accessible for passengers, boosting tourism and offering an alternative means of travel for those who prefer train journeys over other forms of transport.
The resumption of four long-distance trains from November under the Northern Railway Phase VI will further develop the railway network in Jammu. This will promote new travel possibilities for the region’s citizens after the unrest and rainy August, help business and tourism, and improve regional connectivity.
With the resumption of services on multiple routes, officials believe that in the next two months, the full range of train services will be restored, thus providing convenience to passengers and seamless integration with the transport system in the region.
