North Eastern Region (DoNER) Communications and Development Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia has participated in three high-level task force meetings, to press for integrated development of tourism, agriculture and transport sectors across the Northeast region, the government informed on Tuesday.
An official statement said that the High-Level Task Force (HLLTF) meetings were held on October 27, which witnessed the presence of the Chief Ministers of the respective states, namely Mizoram, Meghalaya and Sikkim.
The statement indicated that these task forces work to enhance cooperation between countries, enable policy harmonization, and ensure that development efforts are integrated at the regional level and are not restricted by the state.
The High-Level Task Force on North-East Economic Corridor, chaired by Mizoram Chief Minister BO Laldohmoma, reviewed short-, medium- and long-term interventions to develop roads, railways, air links, inland waterways, energy, digital connectivity, trade corridors and border trade infrastructure across the North-East region.
Inputs were sought from Meghalaya, Assam and Manipur, and Scindia asked the Mizoram government to submit a final report with comments.
In the High-Level Task Force on Tourism, chaired by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, members discussed initial recommendations to develop world-class tourism circuits and adopt a bottom-up action plan.
The High-Level Task Force on Agriculture and Horticulture, headed by Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, reviewed the progress of ongoing initiatives in the agriculture and horticulture sectors across the North-East region, the statement said.
The North Eastern Region Development Ministry said attendees, including senior state officials, APEDA officials and NABARD office bearers, discussed strategies to enhance value addition, processing and market linkages for key agricultural products.
The government statement indicated that the working group focused its discussions on developing integrated cold chain infrastructure, encouraging organic agriculture, group farming, and branding region-specific products with a unified “organic” label.
