Is Marriott Bonvoy Titanium elite status worth it?

Marriott is a popular hotel chain loved by many (including me) for its incredibly large global footprint and wide selection of properties. I’ve had one of their top-tier cases, the Titanium Elite, for the past few years and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. This status is so valuable to me that I have sometimes found myself checking into several Marriott hotels, but not for business or vacation like most travelers. So, what’s the reason for doing what points and miles enthusiasts like me call “running the mattress”?

Well, for me it was Marriott Bonvoy Titanium elite status. I actually re-qualified for Titanium Elite status for next year, and it was worth it. Keep reading to learn what Marriott Titanium Elite status is, the benefits of having this level of status and how to earn it.

What is Marriott Bonvoy Titanium elite status?

Titanium Elite status is the second highest published status you can achieve through Marriott Bonvoy; It falls above Platinum Elite status and below Ambassador Elite status. To achieve this status, you need 75 elite-eligible nightly credits per year. Titanium Elite is the highest Marriott Bonvoy status you can get without meeting spending requirements.

For the 2024 Annual Choice Benefit, I chose five night upgrade awards at the 50-night mark and a free night award certificate worth up to 40,000 points at the 75-night mark.

Personally, I always like to choose annual choice benefits that I can measure. For example, since TPG values ​​Marriott points at 0.7 cents each (according to our October 2025 valuations), a free night award of 40,000 points is worth $280.

I also get great value with nightly upgrade awards, especially when staying at luxury hotels, like the JW Marriott or St. Regis. These upgrades are ideal for use with Marriott’s Stay for 5, Pay for 4 benefit on award bookings. This benefit allows you to stay five nights in a standard Marriott room and get one night free when you book with points. These Nightly Upgrade Awards allow you to apply for the highest possible upgrade and not just the next level up. Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite Status vs. Platinum Elite Status

If you are interested in obtaining Marriott Elite status without meeting the annual residency requirement,… Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card It will give you Platinum Elite status for free (registration required). Although you will get many perks similar to those of Titanium Elite status, there seem to be a lot more people in this elite tier due to the card’s benefits.

So, I’ve found throughout my travels that with more Platinum Elite members, my chances of getting room upgrades become lower, so reaching the next level of status will increase those odds. Plus, with the introduction of automatic free upgrades, my chances of getting an upgrade are much higher. So far I have traveled abroad more than 15 times this year, and I have only been upgraded to a suite once.

The biggest motivating factor for earning Titanium Elite status is getting free United MileagePlus Premier Silver status. Having had several United MileagePlus cases in previous years, I know this is a valuable feature. I knew I wouldn’t re-qualify for United status this year, so earning Titanium Elite status is a great way for me to maintain this airline status.

Although Premier Silver is the lowest tier of United MileagePlus, it includes helpful perks like one free checked bag (up to 70 pounds); Priority check-in, security and boarding to the second group; complimentary upgrades to first class as early as the day of departure (although upgrades to Premier Silver are rare); The most important benefit for me is free entry to premium economy class or preferred seats. This is essential because I’m a big guy, at over 6 feet tall, so even the few extra inches of legroom provided by the Economy Plus seats are important.

Additionally, thanks to Marriott’s partnership with Air Canada, Marriott’s first-class elite members also earn Aeroplan 25K status, which provides powerful perks like free checked bags, priority boarding, and annual upgrade credits. Although I don’t fly Air Canada very often, I’m not one to turn down complimentary elite status.

How to get Marriott Bonvoy Titanium elite status

Bottom line

While the sweet spot for Marriott Bonvoy is Platinum Elite status, earning Titanium Elite status only requires an additional 25 Elite Night credits, which can easily be achieved if you own one (or two) Marriott co-branded credit cards. The extra benefits you get when you jump from Platinum Elite to Titanium Elite are minimal, but the added bonus of United MileagePlus Premier Silver Elite status and the increased earn rate is definitely what gets things moving for me.

It’s a shame Marriott removed the Lifetime Titanium status, because I would definitely strive for that.
