Another trip means another excuse to stay in a hotel. This time we give you a review of Motel 6 San Pedro, our choice for an overnight stay before sailing Princess of the island. The Motel 6 San Pedro is one of a few pre-cruise hotel options for travelers departing from the nearby Los Angeles Word Cruise Center.
Here’s what we thought.

This means it’s just 1.2 miles from the Los Angeles World Cruise Terminal – and about 20 miles from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
Inside information
We chose Motel 6 San Pedro solely because of its proximity to the LA World Cruise terminal. There aren’t many hotels in the area, and this one fit our budget and distance preferences perfectly.
There are hotels a little closer to the cruise port. there Crowne Plaza On South Palos Verdes Avenue (very expensive) and Portside Inn & Suites (Too many negative reviews) for example.

Note that the exterior photos of Motel 6 San Pedro shown on Booking.com are highly inaccurate. We are sure that they have a completely different characteristic.
Check in
Check-in was relatively smooth – once we were able to carry all our bags up the stairs and into the lobby. We were given one key card with strict instructions to keep it away from our cell phones.

When I realized we were assigned a room upstairs, I asked if there was anything available on the ground floor. Unfortunately, the hotel was fully booked, so all of our luggage had to be carried up another flight of stairs.
Top tip: Motel 6 San Pedro has a 24-hour desk, so even if your flight arrives in the middle of the night, you can still check in.
Bedroom
The bedroom itself is very small. There is a double bed, desk, chair and an alcove for storing luggage.
Our bed was excellent. Not too hard, not too soft, and with clean, soft linens. Just what we needed after an 11 hour flight from London.
There is a small chest of drawers on either side of the bed. The bedside tables also feature USB charging ports which is convenient. A small wall-mounted air conditioning unit can be used to cool a room, but it is very loud. We were not bothered.
Overall, the room was clean and comfortable. Perfect for a one night stay.
bathroom
The bathroom is very narrow, with a toilet at one end and a shower section at the opposite, with a sink in between. There’s not a lot of space to move around, but then it’s not like you’re going to have a party there.
He left us two towels, two flannel, and two bars of cheap soap.
The bathroom itself is an amazing surprise. Hot, strong and seemingly unaffected by water pressure issues, it’s a great way to start the next day.
Parking
Unusually for a motel, there are no designated parking spaces at Motel 6 San Pedro. You may be able to find a gap in front of the street if you’re lucky.
accessibility
Sadly, Motel 6 San Pedro received a flat zero score for accessibility. To access the property you must climb a flight of stairs. There is also no elevator inside the motel, and no accessible bathrooms.
If you can’t climb stairs, this is not the hotel for you.
food
There is no on-site restaurant at Motel 6. There is a bodega across the road that is open late if you want to grab a snack.
Otherwise, we recommend Happy Diner. They have a huge menu and everything is cooked fresh to order. They also open early – perfect for breakfast!
A restaurant is located within walking distance.
Other accommodation options in San Pedro
There are two accommodation options in San Pedro near the World Cruise Terminal, with something to suit every budget.
Can you walk from Motel 6 to the Los Angeles Wold Cruise Terminal?
Our first priority was to choose a hotel near the Los Angeles World Cruise Center. Just 1.2 miles away, the Motel 6 San Pedro was exactly what we wanted.
It takes about 30 minutes to walk from Motel 6 San Pedro to the cruise port. Simply turn left outside the hotel and follow the street to the end. Turn left when you can see the palm trees overlooking the harbor and follow the street down a gentle slope to South Harbor Boulevard and continue heading north.

We crossed the street and walked along the waterfront which is probably the most beautiful part of San Pedro. This gives you a chance to admire the battleship USS Iowa and any other cruise ships that may be in port.
Then there was a short detour through the port car park and into the terminal building. I did manage to rip the wheels off two of my suitcases on the way, but that’s more of an indictment of the IT than the trip itself.
Top tip: The piers (piers) between the hotel and the port are fairly well maintained, so the trip isn’t too bad for scooter users (or anyone hauling heavy luggage).
Motel 6 San Pedro Review – Final Rating
Motel 6 San Pedro is basic, functional and, frankly, nothing special. But then he never pretended to.
Experienced cruisers may be put off by the lack of amenities, but if you’re just looking for a place to stay the night before your cruise, the San Pedro Motel 6 may fit the bill.
The route to the station is easy, but there are plenty of ride-sharing options available if you’re prepared. San Pedro isn’t the most exciting or attractive city, but it was nice to see a little of Los Angeles given the shortness of our stay.
