10 beautiful parks in Newcastle that every local (and visitor) should explore

1. Town Moor

Best for: Gazing at the cows, he finds a pocket of peace, plenty of land to roam

Town Moor is not truly Park – Instead, it’s basically just a huge, well-maintained field, with cows, grass, small hills, and running and cycling paths. If you’re looking for something quiet, this is the place for you…and the further north you go, the less busy it will be.

So, in the central and northern parts of Town Moor, you won’t really find anything to do.

…But the southern part of Moore Town is closer to civilization. Here, you’re just a 15-minute walk from Newcastle city centre, and you’re right next to the famous Exhibition Park (more on that soon).

Fun fact: The Town Moor is larger than Central Park in New York.

Fun Fact #2: The Town Moor hosts the annual Newcastle GalaTransportation“The event, every June. This event is very popular in the city, has been happening since the 1880s, and is the largest traveling fairground in Europe.

2. Jesmond Denny

Best for: Waterfall hike, walk through the center of Newcastle, beautiful walk around

Another place that is not actually a park.

Instead, Jesmond Dene is a narrow valley that runs from the outskirts of Newcastle almost to the city centre. In total, it is just over two miles (just over 3.2 kilometers) long.

Highlights include:

• cafe
• waterfall
• Petting zoo
• Places for children to play
• The walking trails are gentle but beautiful
• Nearby park (more about this place soon)
• Weekend food market (located on the Armstrong Bridge)

I recommend heading to South Gosforth tube stationwalk around the Denny area from there, then follow the beautiful river until it meets (almost) the city centre. Along this route, you will see almost the entire Deane area, find all the highlights, and have a pleasant walk.

3. Exhibition Park

Best for: Feeding the ducks, taking a walk with your kids, exploring Wylam Brewery, and sitting between the Town Moor and the city centre

As we said, this is located at the southern end of the Town Moor.

Exhibition Park is the first real park we brought to you, and it is one of the most popular green spaces in the city.

Concessions include tennis courts, a skate park, children’s playgrounds, a lake full of ducks, lawn benches, patches of grass, and Urban Green Cafe. Also sitting in the garden will be very popular Willam beerone of the city’s most popular places for events, dancing, al fresco drinking, and locally made food and drinks.

If you’re not sure which Newcastle park to choose, this is a good option.

4. Paddy Freeman Park

Best for: Local people living nearby

Paddy Freeman’s Park is directly linked to Jesmond Dene.

Honestly, it’s not the most impressive place in the world…

…but it’s always relatively quiet and peaceful (and maybe that’s what you’re looking for).

Usually, the only people you see at Buddy Freeman Park are local families. The park has a lake, lots of ducks, some tennis courts, a parking lot, and a children’s playground.

If you live locally, come here. If you don’t, don’t bother.

5. Heaton Park

Best for: Hang out with the guys, make friends with the students, and find a bunch of weird shoes

The most student-friendly of all the Newcastle parks we’ve presented to you, Heaton Park is located in the Heaton district (Yes, you could probably solve that yourself).

This part of Newcastle is the place Many students live in the city. On a sunny summer day here, you’ll usually find young people picnicking, playing music, and drinking more than eating.

The park is home to A branch of the Sambuca food chainSome small woodland areas, a children’s play park, a few benches and lots of fields.

…but it is very famous for its strange “shoe tree.” This massive sycamore tree has hundreds of shoes hanging from it (yes, really). No one seems to know why. Make sure you find it.

When you’re done in the park, head to Heaton Road to see all its independent cafes. The Butterfly Cabinet is a big local favorite and serves breakfast and brunch classics, cakes, pies, sandwiches, milkshakes, great coffee and more. Widely recommended!

6. Liz’s Park

Best for: A park in the city centre, feeding some ducks and views of St James’ Park

Leazes Park is located right in the city centre…

…And because it’s located right in the city centre, it offers views of St James’ Park. As you already know, St James’ Park is where Newcastle United play their football matches (And by “soccer” I mean “soccer.”).

Other features at Leazes Park include bandstands, a lake stocked with ducks, tennis courts, basketball courts and excellent playing fields. Tower Café. On a sunny summer day, Leazes Park gets very crowded – mainly with families and couples.

7. Saltwell Park

Best for: There are lots of things to do, visit one of the best parks in England, and meet some cute creatures

Regularly voted as one of the best parks in the UK, Saltwell Park is actually located just over the river in Gateshead.

…but it’s totally worth the trip.

Covering 22 hectares/55 acres (the equivalent of 30 football fields!), highlights of this truly beautiful park include:

• A maze
• Play areas
• Boating lake
• Artistic installations
• Free parking on site
• Rabbits and guinea pigs
• Loads of running and walking trails
• Plenty of picnic tables and picnic areas*
• Tyneside Beekeepers Association (!)
• Lots of wildlife (including birds and squirrels)
• Tennis courts, basketball courts, and more than one bowling alley
• A restored Gothic palace (Where you’ll find the Visitor Center and Tea Room)

…And to top it all off, the place also hosts events, festivals, light shows and fireworks displays.

In short, if you are looking for a park with a lot to do, Saltwell Park is the one for you.

8. Armstrong Park

Best for: Quiet atmosphere and proximity to Heaton Park

Little Armstrong Park is a two-minute walk north of Heaton Park, and the two basically blend together.

(And to be honest, I don’t even know where one ends and the other begins. Does anyone know?)

…Anyway, if you want a Heaton Park location, but with a quieter atmosphere, this is the place for you. You get a play area, tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds and not much else. A good place for a quiet family outing, but not worth a visit if you’re not already in the area.

9. Nuns Moore Park

Best for: Community atmosphere, unusual events and great space

This is located between the Town Moor and the suburb of Fenham on the western outskirts of Newcastle.

…So it’s another good option for people who live in Newcastle…but it’s not a great option for tourists.

Bigger than most people expectNuns Moor Park is divided (for reasons I don’t understand) into different parks (Nuns Moor South, Nuns Moor Central, and Hunters Moor).

But in fact, they are all related to each other, and all merge into one person.

An underrated place, Nuns Moor Park features play areas, flower fields, garden benches, summer picnics, planted trees, a community orchard and plenty of dog walkers and local families. If you live nearby, be sure to stop by and find your new favorite park.

Pro Tip: Make sure to log out as well Bike parka welcoming space with locally sourced food-based projects, events and fun. As you may have trained by now, this park serves up a great relaxed community atmosphere.

10. City Stadium

Best for: Explore the very nearby Ouseburn area (the best part of Newcastle!)

Not the most impressive park in the world, but this park is located at the top of the Ouseburn area…

…this is the best part of town.

It was recently voted one of the coolest neighborhoods in the UK By lead time, It’s a cozy, once-industrial labyrinthine area, filled with lots of bars, cafes, restaurants and quirky independent venues (including a petting zoo!).

The park itself has a play area, a basketball court, a large, spacious grass field, a well-maintained circular gravel running track, and not much else. Yes, it’s nothing special, but it’s a great location to explore the neighborhood.

(Oh, and despite its name, the city stadium is very much a park… not a playground at all. Confusing).
