With a steep drop in JEE aspirants, IHMs are forced to take direct admissions to fill seats this year, EttravelWorld

The rough patch created by the Covid19 pandemic in the tourism and hospitality sector is also reflected in the hotel education segment. For the second year in a row, the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), the National Council for Hospitality Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), is in demand for schools managed by the National Council for Hospitality Management (NCHMCT).

According to official sources in the National Board, only 12,400 students appeared for the NCHM Joint Entrance Examination (Jee) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) out of a total of 19,600. Jee was held online on August 10 this year.

NCHMCT has to fill 12000 seats in Central, State and Private IHMs affiliated to it for 3 years bsc in hospitality and hotel management course. It is unlikely that all students who appear for admission will be admitted to the course.

In the current scenario, the Affiliated Institutes of the National Board have to apply for direct admission to replace the vacancies arising in the institutes, after completing the student separation from the jee list, a senior official approves. In normal courses, some places admit foreign students, admit from SAARC countries etc. With admission, there is also an NRI quota which is part of direct admission.

With the number of students appearing for Jee falling further this year, IHM will find it difficult to get students in private institutes affiliated to the National Board. Meanwhile, three more private institutions will join the umbrella of the National Council this year. These are Fhrai Institute of Hotel Management, Greater Noida; Om sterling hissar; and Preston Institute Gwalor.

In the pre-pandemic period, the National Board was getting an average of 30,000 applications for Jee with over 80 per cent turnout.
