Spanish Air Travel System Company Amadeus began suspending fares offered by a Russian aeroflot from Spokejer’s systems on Thursday. Amadeus has suspended all planned commercial projects in Russia following last week’s invasion of Ukraine, a spokeswoman for Spokeuso said.
The company is assessing the impact of international sanctions on Russia, and Russian retaliation may have its case. GDS providers such as Amadeus and Saber use software networks to distribute airline tickets.
Earlier, travel booking software provider Saber Corp canceled its distribution deal with Aeroflot on Thursday, undermining the Russian flag carrier’s ability to sell tickets. Saber is the latest in a market where Aeroflot uses Aeroflot’s flight content from Aeroflot’s global distribution system (GDS), travel agencies and corporates with backup flights, and Amadeus is the latest to cut ties with Russian firms following sweeping sanctions against Moscow over its attack on Ukraine. Saber said it will also assess whether further action is necessary after legal considerations and any countermeasures that may be taken in response.
