Sentosa Development Corporation and Rical Travel Group Collaborate to Launch Immersive Continuing Education Programs, EttravelWorld

Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) and Rical Travel Group (Ric) are partnering to deliver innovative educational programs designed to position Sentosa as a sustainable destination for Indian students. The two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding during ITB Asia 2024, aimed at raising awareness around sustainability while presenting their understanding practices at ITB Asia 2024.

Under the year-long collaboration, Indian students will explore the diverse ecosystems of Sentosa, emphasizing the principles of Sustainability, environmental protection and global sustainable development goals. Memoran strives to make sentosa a “living classroom”, encouraging students to engage with nature and realizing that eco-friendly experiences can make a positive difference in their communities.

Central to the partnership is the launch of an unchanged sentosa program in November 2024. The initiative will provide students with an opportunity to learn about marine conservation, native wildlife planning and the implementation of sustainable tourism practices. Program highlights include:

– Intersidal survey of southern coasts to understand coastal ecosystems.
– Nature walks along Serapong and Imbiah trail to discover local flora and fauna.
– An incredible racing adventure across Sentosa and St. John’s Island, encouraging responsible consumption.
– Ocean Survival Skills workshops on Lazarus Island.
– Eco tours of sustainable attractions such as Siloso Beach Resort, Skyline Luge and Sentosa’s cable car system.

The tourism industry is at a crossroads. The environmental and social impact of tourism has been the subject of controversial discussions in recent times. It has been found that traditional tourism puts a strain on natural resources and the environment. Natural ecosystems in popular tourist spots are becoming increasingly vulnerable. Activities such as snorkelling and boating, for example, put a strain on coral reefs.

Establish a global perspective for sustainability
He emphasized the importance of this collaboration: “This collaboration also strengthens Sentosa’s position as a hub for sustainable tourism. SDC’s approach to sustainability includes eco-friendly practices in visitor activities, accommodation, transportation and dining, making it the first island in Asia to receive the Global Sustainable Tourism Council certification.

Enhancing educational tourism between India and Singapore
With India a key source market for Sentosa, the initiative is expected to increase educational tourism, providing longer, more meaningful stays for visitors. SDC CEO Thien Kwee Eng emphasized the importance of this collaboration: “This partnership represents an important milestone in promoting sustainable tourism through education.

Through this initiative, Sentosa and Rical Travel Group are creating an exciting platform for Indian students to gain hands-on experience and increase awareness of sustainability while contributing to the growing trend of educational travel.
