New insights from fair data on robust growth in both domestic and international travel demand as India prepares to celebrate World Tourism Day. Between January and August 2025, domestic travel searches grew by 47 percent pan-India compared to the same period last year, while international travel searches grew by 44 percent.
Domestic tourism continues to grow. Spiritual destinations saw significant gains, with Chardham packages increasing by 73 percent, Kedarnath by 39 percent and Ayodhya by 40 percent. Demand for popular leisure destinations remained strong, led by Kashmir (+78 percent), Kerala (+82 percent), Munnar (+80 percent), Shimla (+60 percent), Darjeeling (+60 percent), (+60 percent). Among getaways, Manali saw a 53 percent increase (+27 percent), followed by Mahabaleshwar (+21 percent) and Shirdi (+10 percent). Total searches for Hill stations are up 26 percent, strengthening their pullback year-over-year, fueling their popularity.
On the international front, short-term directions prevail. Nepal, with an increase of 78 percent, followed by 70 percent of Thailand and 78 percent of 41 percent of Dubai. Religious and cultural tourism remained strong, seeing a 7 percent increase with Umrah packages.
Data is changing consumer behavior with rising disposable incomes, increasing appeal of short-term vacations, and strong interest in spiritual tourism. A slowdown in study-abroad travel has helped fuel growing demand for domestic vacations.
A Justdial spokesperson said the company is seeing more use of its platform to connect travelers with approved operators and cleared packages. “We continue to see travel searches growing in double digits, led by both the spiritual and leisure categories.
