Indian travelers, AI and Biometrics for seamless, personalized travel: Amadeus Research, EttravelWorld

A new global study by Amadeus highlights the rapid adoption of AI and biometric technologies among Indian travelers seeking more sophisticated and personalized travel experiences. The study, Connected Travel: How Technology Will Transform 9,500 Global Travelers in Markets Including India, China, Singapore, France, Spain, UK and US

74 percent of respondents in India are comfortable with biometric gateways for faster, paperless airport processes, higher than the global average of 69 percent. The findings highlight a growing appetite for improved efficiency and reduced friction during friction. A Strong Digital Payments Ecosystem driven by UPI and mobile wallet usage further supports the country’s readiness for biometrics and ground-breaking travel innovation.

Artificial intelligence is also changing how Indian travelers plan and manage their trips. The use of generative AI for travel planning rose from 26 percent last year to 26 percent in 2025, and for international leisure travel planning rose from 26 percent to 26 percent. Almost all Indian users (97 percent) reported a positive experience while engaging (49 percent), discovering hidden destinations (45 percent) and more creative itineraries (44 percent).

Research shows that 64 percent of Indian travelers have requested AI travel assistants, real-time, on-trip support and are willing to pay up to five percent of the total cost of the trip for such services. However, 25 percent reported frustrations such as outdated or inaccurate results and limited customization.

Loyalty programs continue to have a significant impact on travel behavior, with 92 percent of Indian travelers subscribing to at least one. Nearly half (47 percent) took more frequent leisure travel due to loyalty incentives, and 46 percent preferred a rewards experience as a result of their membership.

“The rapid growth in the use of generative AI shows that travelers are eager for smarter, more personalized experiences. But the data also shows a clear message: expectations are high and the industry must work together to meet them,” he said. “We see a huge opportunity to ensure the EU reduces friction, increases trust and makes every journey easier.”

Mani Ganeshan, head of APAC engineering and Amadeus India, added, “In a digital-first country like India, travelers are not just ready for innovation.

The study also highlights that 90 percent of air travelers experience anxiety during travel, particularly around security checks, airport transfers and flight delays. Technology including remote baggage check-in, real-time updates and integrated ‘super apps’ help reduce these pain points.

With Indian travelers at the forefront of digital adoption, Amadeus Research ushered in a new era of smart, seamless and trustless travel experiences powered by AI and Biometrics.
