Indian Himalayan Center for Adventure and Ecotourism (IHCAE), Chemchey, Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Government of Sikkim successfully hosted the first IHCAE Partnership enclave on October 9-10, courtesy of Sikkim.
Held under the theme ‘Strengthening Cooperation in Adventure and Ecotourism’, the two-day event brought together delegations representing adventure tourism operators and a roadmap for developing sustainable tourism in the Eastern Himalayas from India, Nepal and Bhutan.
Inaugural meeting at Ihcae Chemchey was raised by Zilla Adhaksha Namchi, Anjeeta Rajalim as chief guest. In his address, he lauded the Department of Tourism and IHCAE for promoting Skill-based education and called for stronger institutional collaboration to position Sikkim as a National Model for responsible adventure tourism.
Neeraj Pradhan, Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation, emphasized the need for academic linkages to develop mainstream adventure training programs. The expert sessions included Vijay Singh, President, Mountaineering Foundation of India, who discussed the future of mountaineering in Sikkim; Dr. Peter Lobo, ISO North Bengal and Sikkim speaking to a bird hunting tourism; Dr. Kishore Rady, BNHS, BNHS, emphasized the importance of biodiversity conservation in tourism planning.
The addition witnessed the unveiling of an adventure map of Sikkim and to strengthen educational collaboration between BNHS and Sion Mount Group of Sion.
On the second day, the delegation participated in a Mountain bike ride from CHEMCHEY to TEMI, with sites demonstrating site-based tourism models. A final meeting attended by senior government officials highlighted the balance between environmental sensitivity and tourism development.
The event concluded with eight new MoUs signed between India, India, Nepal and Bhutan Tourism Authority and Partner Organizations, affirming regional cooperation, skill development and sustainable adventure tourism in the Indian Himalayas.
